One of our tallest lotus, it gives buds the size of grenades that develop for weeks before opening into an explosion of pink and purple-ish petals. Someday we will count and see if there are really 1000. The leaves can grow to 2 ft in diameter and are just as impressive as the flowers.
Unfurl the bud manually when outer petals start to loosen and you will have a gorgeous blossom that keeps its shape for many days, unlike most other lotus. On occasion, you may get a flower with a "double heart." This is a truly unique one if you have the space for it. Plant tubers in a a large container, at least 25" wide. And go a bit deeper on the soil. This will give support to the flower stems, as the buds are VERY heavy.

Plant in a container that is at least 25" W x 12" H. The wider you go, the more room it will have to spread.
